In this literature in probability course we shall mostly be concerned with Gibbs measures and phase transitions, their role in statistical physics, the corresponding mathematical theory and possible applications.
The course will be based on current literature supplemented by books (to the extent relevant) or the instructor's notes.
During the second half of the quarter, each registered student shall give a presentation (not to exceed one hour) on material related to the subject of the course.
Prerequisite: Statistics 310a, Mathematics 205a or an equivalent course, see also Probability Theory: An Analytic View.
Meeting: W 3:15-4:30, MJH(460)-450. First meeting: April 2nd.
